VIC: Dairy corporation warns against name of soy "milk"
x MELBOURNE, Dec 31 AAP - The Australian Dairy Corporation has threatened legal action
against a Melbourne health food firm, saying its use of the word "milk" to describe a soy
product contravened the Trade Practices Act, The Age reported today.
Lawyers for the corporation had warned Pureharvest, manufacturer of Aussie Soy, promoted as
"genuine non-dairy soy milk", that it had until next Wednesday to withdraw the use of the word
"milk" or face legal action.
The corporation also objected to the use of "yoghurt" or "cheese", the paper said.
It was believed that other soy milk makers had received similar warnings.
The corporation claimed Pureharvest had breached Sections 52 and 53 of the Trade Practices
Act by allegedly engaging in misleading conduct and misrepresenting a product.
